Jack ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation donate to support Sri Lanka
With the pandemic outbreak of COVID – 19 extending towards Asia, the Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundation is taking measures to donate essential medical supplies to the governments of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The initiative taken by the two foundations are currently on a roll to provide supplies to the American, European and African regions. Apart from mass donations of essential medical supplies, the Alibaba group has provided an online knowledge sharing platform for hospitals to connect with Chinese doctors and nurses.

The total donation for the Asian countries comprises a total of 1.8 million face masks, 210,000 COVID-19 test kits, 36,000 sets of protective clothing, medical equipment and supplies which include, ventilators and forehead thermometers.
The Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka, received the said donation on the 1st of April 2020. The Minister of health Mrs. Pavithra Wanniarachchi and Minister of Social Affairs Mr. Tharaka Balasuriya was handed over the essential supplies to be distributed across the island. The donation by the Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundations were given by Mr. Rakil Fernando, Managing Director of Daraz Sri Lanka.
