Tantalize your Taste Buds with these Ifthar Recipes

Ifthar is the time of day that fasting Muslims most look forward to. Food preparations differ with every culture, and families usually gather to prepare light finger foods, rice porridge and occasionally a sweet treat. Since Ramazan continues for a period of 29 to 30 days, we are constantly looking for new recipes and something to try out everyday.

Here are a few Ifthar recipes to tantalize your taste buds this Ramazan. We have put together a blog with our favorite recipes to help you prepare for Ifthar from a wide range of mouth-watering dishes.

Cheese Samosa Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • Samosa dough sheets
  • 100g – cream cheese
  • 50g – Mozzarella cheese
  • Flour-water paste (acts as glue for the samosa sheet)
  • 1 cup- vegetable oil for frying

DIRECTIONS:

Step 1 – Filling:
Into a bowl, grate the Mozzarella cheese and mix with cream cheese.

Step 2- Wrapping:
Place a tablespoon of cheese filling onto the samosa dough sheet.
Fold the sheets and use flour- water paste on the sides to form a triangular shape.

Step 3 – Frying:
Heat vegetable oil in a pan, and fry the samosas until they turn brown.
Flip the samosa to make sure both sides are fried until brown.
To absorb the excess oil, transfer to a plate lined with paper towels.

Chicken Kebab Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 sliced onion
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 1 lemon
  • ⅓ teaspoon saffron (crushed)
  • 1 lime
  • 1.3 kg of chicken breast cubes
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper powder

DIRECTIONS:

Juice the lime and lemon, and combine them in a large bowl, along with pepper, onion, salt and saffron.

Stir in olive oil.

Then, add the chicken cubes into the bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Allow to marinate for 6 to 12 hours, stirring every few hours to ensure that the chicken is evenly coated.

Preheat a grill over medium-high heat and brush the grate gently with oil.

Remove chicken from the bowl, shake off excess marinade, and discard marinade left in the bowl.

Arrange chicken cubes onto metal skewers and allow to cook on the grill for about 10-15 minutes, until the chicken is browned.

Vermicelli Pudding Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 ½ cups of milk
  • 230g  vermicelli pasta
  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 8 cardamom seeds Optional)
  • Raisins to taste (optional)


DIRECTIONS:

Break the vermicelli pasta into 4-inch lengths.

In a saucepan, heat the milk. Add the sugar and cardamom seeds and let it boil.

Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue to cook for another 5 minutes.

Add the vermicelli pasta and raisins into the heated milk and stir. Simmer for another 5 minutes, or until the pasta is soft and the cream sauce has thickened.

Remove from heat and set aside for 15 minutes to let it cool down.

Add milk if the pudding thickens above the desired amount.

Banana Fritters Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • Oil for frying
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg (optional)
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ cup water

DIRECTIONS:

Cut the bananas into halves both horizontally and vertically.

Since we need thin slices of bananas, continue by cutting the halved bananas into halves.

For a thick, lump-free batter, mix together the flour, egg, sugar, baking soda, and water with a whisk or in a blender.

During this process, make sure water is added slowly such that you can control the amount of water added and prevent the batter from getting watery.

Place a frying pan over medium heat and pour in enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan.

Evenly coat the banana slices with batter and let them fry one by one until golden brown.

Transfer the fried plantains to a paper towel-lined dish using a slotted spoon.


Chicken Nuggets Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 chicken breasts, cut into little cubes
  • Black pepper
  • 2 large eggs

    For frying:
  • Vegetable oil

    For serving:
  • Ketchup

DIRECTIONS:

Take three separate bowls. In one, mix the flour, a pinch of salt and pepper. In another, combine the eggs and 2 tablespoons of water. Place the breadcrumbs in the other bowl.

Shake the chicken pieces in the bowl of the flour mixture to coat them. Then, dip them in the egg mixture, and cover them in breadcrumbs.

In a large skillet, heat about 2 inches vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

Once heated, fry the chicken in batches, until they turn golden brown. Turn and let them fry for a couple of minutes per side, to make sure they get properly cooked. Drain on a paper towel and serve with ketchup.

Bread Egg Toast Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 6 Bread slices
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • ¼ tsp ground pepper
  • 1 mashed tomato
  • 2 tbsp chopped onion
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • ⅛ tsp turmeric powder
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 handfuls- chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 pinch- salt

DIRECTIONS:

Cut off the brown ends of the bread slices.

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients, except for the bread slices and oil. Use a whisk to beat.

Soak the bread slices in the mix.

Heat a non-stick pan and add the two tablespoons of oil.

Toast the soaked bread slices on both sides until they turn golden-brown.
